01 / MAKE YOUR ESTIMATE

Your doorstep, your numbers.

Start with last year's visitor count, if you have one. The numbers below are an example, not a prediction.

THE MATH, WITHOUT THE MYSTERY

Count people.
Add a little room.

  1. Work out the base amount.

Expected visitors × pieces per visitor.

  2. Add your chosen buffer.

Multiply by (1 + extra allowance ÷ 100), then round up to a whole piece.

  3. Buy whole bags.

Divide the target by pieces per bag and round up. Multiply bags by your price to estimate cost.

A worked example

100 visitors × 2 pieces × 1.20 = 240 pieces.
With 80 pieces per bag, that's 3 bags. At $12 each, the estimate is $36 before tax.

BEFORE YOU FILL THE BOWL

A few useful details.

What if I don't know how many visitors to expect?

Ask a neighbor about previous years, or use your own previous count. Calculate a lower and a higher scenario to see how your shopping list changes. This calculator does not supply neighborhood turnout estimates.

My bag lists weight, not a piece count. What should I enter?

Use a piece count from the package or count a representative bag yourself. Weight alone does not tell us how many individually wrapped pieces it contains. Mixed bags can vary.

Are the leftovers just the extra allowance?

No. Potential leftovers include your chosen buffer and any extra pieces from rounding up to full bags. They assume exactly your expected number of visitors, each taking your planned portion.

Can I plan non-food treats or a party with this?

Yes. Use items per guest and items per pack. The arithmetic is the same. This tool calculates quantities; it does not assess whether a treat is suitable for a particular person.

Do you save my numbers?

Your inputs and plan stay in this browser. We count coarse page requests and button actions without saving your numbers, name, cookies or visitor identifier. See our privacy notice.
